Zigbee is a communication protocal widely use in smart home products. A communication protocol is a kind of language – a set of rules – that different entities use to transmit information amongst one another. These protocols can vary in the way they are structured and may use different frequencies for communication.
Examples of different protocols include RTS, io-homecontrol, Bluetooth, Thread, Z-Wave and Zigbee. Protocols can’t communicate with each other directly, but they can be used in combination with smart home devices system by means of a controller, hub or gateway that can support multiple protocols – like TaHoma switch.
Somfy’s solution for Zigbee window blinds and curtains is designed to make your life easier. Fitting most types of curtains and blinds, our Zigbee motors can be integrated into the window covering of your choice. The fabric also stays neat longer as you never need to touch it.
Our motors operate silently, creating a peaceful environment in each room. You can choose the wired version that runs on mains power and doesn't need charging, or with the WireFree option, there's no need to drill into walls as the motors slip seamlessly into your home décor. In both cases, the motorisation is discreet and eliminates cords to provide a child-safe and pet-friendly solution.
Getting dark outside? Close your window coverings to protect your privacy. Need a bit more light? Open your coverings just the right amount. You adjust them effortlessly, and exactly as you desire or it can be done automatically. If you are not there, you can simulate your presence with your coverings and lighting, to protect your home.

Routers are responsible for routing traffic between different nodes. They are also responsible for receiving and storing messages intended to an other router or end devices. Routers may not sleep. As such, routers are not a suitable choice for battery operated devices.

A router can be connected with 6 Wirefree devices maximum (router or end device). You must respect this limitation by adding additional routers every 6 Sleepy End Devices to preserve the perfomances of the system.
It is possible to have consecutive routers ("Hops") to relay signal between two Zigbee Wirefree devices. We do recommend a maximum of 6 consecutive routers.
The system will continue working for a while if there are Routers in the system (AC devices).
Warning: Should be considered as a temporary situation.
Any device with Zigbee 3.0 certification must be accepted in the Zigbee network as a router but is does not guarantee that this device is managed by the TaHoma App.
To be compatible, the device needs to have the same Cluster (e.g. Window Convering for motors).
Note: Even with the same Cluster, the compatibility is not guarantee because of some differences in the implementation (attributes).
